THE POWER'S draftees have taken new numbers for the 2017 season.

Sam Powell-Pepper willl take over the No. 2 most recently worn by fellow West Australian Kane Mitchell.

That number achieved its highest honour - an AFL premiership appearance - on the back of stalwart backman Darryl Wakelin.

But it's enjoyed a pretty handy history in the SANFL too - being worn in Magpies premierships by club heroes like Tim Ginever and Darrell Cahill (four flags each), Bob Fabian (three flags) and Tom Williams (five flags).

New forward Todd Marshall will don the No. 13 vacated by Cam O'Shea.

That number achieved its greatest successes on the backs of Rohan Smith and Bob Philp - two of the great Magpies who helped pave the club's entry into the AFL in the nineties and sixties respectively.

Willem Drew will take over Jay Schulz's No. 28, worn by Toby Thurstans in the 2004 flag and Darren Smith in seven SANFL premierships.

And Joe Atley will wear the No. 30 in 2017, a rarely-worn number which has only been worn in 100 games by Troy Chaplin (AFL) and Leon Milde (SANFL).

Rookies handed new numerals

Brett Eddy will take over Alipate Carlile's No. 27.a popular number worn by the likes of David Hutton, Max James, Colin Parham, Bob Marrett and Kevin Salmon for over 100 games.

It's a popular number worn by the likes of David Hutton, Max James, Colin Parham, Bob Marrett and Kevin Salmon for over 100 SANFL games.

Those men all wore it in premierships too, as did Danny Hughes and Tony Bamford.

Peter Ladhams will wear the No. 38 most famously worn by Roger James.

Jarrod Lienert will take over Aaron Young's No. 40 after the speedy forward moved to No. 11 for 2017.

Emmanuel Irra will wear No. 45.
