PORT ADELAIDE has nominated Jase Burgoyne as a potential father-son selection ahead of next month’s AFL National Draft.
Under AFL regulations all eligible father-son selections have to be nominated by clubs by this Friday afternoon.
The paperwork does not guarantee that Port Adelaide will select Burgoyne, but it gives the club the option of matching a bid made by another team.
Burgoyne is the son of 2004 premiership player Peter Burgoyne, who played 240 AFL games for Port Adelaide between 1997 and 2009.
Peter Burgoyne was also part of the club’s 1998 SANFL premiership side and is a member of the Indigenous Team of the Century.
Jase Burgoyne was given permission to play three SANFL games for Port Adelaide in 2021, averaging 16 disposals and four marks playing in defence. He then returned to his parent club Woodville-West Torrens, where he played four Reserves games and eight in the Under 18 competition.
If selected, he would become the club’s fifth father-son selection in its history after Brett Ebert in 2002, Jackson Mead and Trent Burgoyne in 2019, and Taj Schofield in 2020.
Port Adelaide currently holds picks 12, 63, 73, 74 and 92 for the draft, which is scheduled to run over two nights from November 24, with the Pre-Season and Rookie drafts to take place on November 26.
