A trio of young guns and two impressive backmen make up the five fastest players at Port Adelaide in 2021.
Data released by the AFL’s Telstra Tracker has revealed Aliir Aliir to be the player to clock the fastest speed in 2021.
His 34.54km/h sees him just ahead of fellow defender Ryan Burton (34.49) and fleet footed forward Connor Rozee (34.42).
Mitch Georgiades and Lachie Jones make up the rest of Port Adelaide’s top-five fastest players although if new recruit Jeremy Finlayson’s top speed of 34.16km/h was included Jones would have been nudged out.
Essendon’s Nick Hind reached a top speed of 36.07km/h ranking him as the fastest in the AFL and the only player to reach 36km/h.
He was one of twelve players to clock 35km/h in 2021, with four Fremantle players amongst that group. They included Travis Colyer, Griffin Logue, Michael Frederick and Joel Hambling.
While Hind’s speed made him the fastest in 2021, Gold Coast’s Oleg Markov still holds the record as the fastest player in the competition with his 37.4km/h set while playing for Richmond against Collingwood in Round 2, 2019.
Port Adelaide defender Trent McKenzie ranks equal third overall with a speed of 36.4km/h recorded in Round 1 of 2020 against the Suns.
Hind’s 2021 effort ranks him equal fifth overall.
