SCOTT LYCETT’s mullet and moustache are no longer with the big man undergoing a very public hair cut to help a friend in need.

Lycett on Sunday underwent the shave at the Port District Football Club with one punter paying $1300 for the honour of making the first snip of the hallowed mullet.

A professional hair dresser then completed the task, watched on by a raucous crowd in the clubrooms in Port Adelaide’s heartland.

Immediately afterwards, Lycett said his neck felt cold and he felt lighter.

“I think I’ll have to get some sunscreen on the back of the neck and on the top lip as well at training,” he joked.

“If it gets some sun, it might burn pretty easily.

“But we’ll see, it might be here to stay, we’ll see.”

Lycett’s glorious moustache began as a Movember fundraiser back in 2019 and stuck around as his way of continuing to raise awareness for men’s health.

His mullet followed soon after but after two years, the ruckman elected to go under the razor to support family friend Michael “Mishy” Nyskohus, who has recently been diagnosed with Metastatic Stomach Cancer.

Mish is undergoing treatment for the cancer and requires around the clock care.

Mish’s son Jason Nyskohus played football for Port Adelaide alongside Lycett and the pair became good friends.

“You can see by how many people were here how much Mish means to so many,” Lycett said.

“I was playing footy with his son at the Port Magpies ten years ago before I got drafted.

“I used to see him at every game, and I’d go to their house all the time for a barbie and jump in the pool on a hot day so he’s been a big part of my life and hopefully this has been a big part of theirs today.

“He’s one of my best mates and obviously going through some hard times so I thought, how could I help.

“Hopefully (cutting my hair) could just raise some money for these guys – the family – and put some smiles on some faces while I do it.”

Aiming to raise $20,000 to assist with medical bills and finishing off some work at Mish’s newly built home, Lycett surpassed that figure just before the clippers came out on Sunday and more fundraising on the day saw the figure raised surpass $30,000.

To assist with the cause around 20 others shaved their heads, including Lycett’s good friend and former Port Adelaide player Sam Gray, Mishy’s son Jason Nyskohus and another former Port Adelaide SANFL player Louis Sharrad.

“I am very surprised and very grateful to the people who jumped on board and helped out,” Lycett said.

“We’ve raised a lot of money so far and I’m just really appreciative of people who have jumped on board.

“It’s been a great day.”

Anyone who wants to contribute can still do so through Lycett’s gofundme page.
