Pre-game - COMMENT
It’s overcast and muggy. Temperature would be in the high 20s. There’s a few spots of light rain around. Not ideal conditions for footy. The surface is magnificent though and the huge (empty) Telstra Stadium is quite a sight for those of us who haven’t been here before.

Pre-game - COMMENT
The four players missing from the 28-man side the Power named on Wednesday are Travis Boak and Adam Thomson, who will play for Sturt on Saturday afternoon, along with injured stars Dean Brogan (hamstring) and Peter Burgoyne (thigh). That means new draft selections Adam Cockshell and Nathan Krakouer are both playing.

Starting on the bench for Port Adelaide is Ryan Willits, Nathan Krakouer, Tom Logan, Brad Symes, David Rodan and Greg Bentley.

1min - SCORE – Port Adelaide behind – Brett Ebert
Hit the post after roving a marking contest by getting front and center.

3min - SCORE – Port Adelaide behind – rushed

4min - SCORE – Sydney behind – Barry Hall
Played on from an angle and missed.

8min - SCORE – Port Adelaide goal – Damon White
Won a 50m penalty at half forward and goaled from 52m out directly in front. The 50m penalty seemed like 30.

9min - SCORE – Sydney behind – Jude Boltonr

10min - SCORE – Port Adelaide behind – Adam Cockshell
Got a good pass from Pearce, the ball coming down from the kick-in without Sydney touching it. Should have been a goal from the set shot from 45m.

13min - SCORE – Port Adelaide behind – Josh Mahoney
Great passage of play – Ebert marked well and played on to find Mahoney. Salopek, Bentley, Pettigrew involved. Definitely should have been a goal from 20m out.

16min - SCORE – Sydney goal – Adam Goodes
Marked strongly on the goal line.

16min - SCORE – Port Adelaide behind – Brett Ebert
Ryan Willits as a makeshift ruckman won a tap, ball passed to Ebo who looks dangerous. Missed his set shot from an angle.

18min - SCORE – Port Adelaide behind – Brett Ebert
He is in everything. This time a mark overhead with a Sydney opponent either side. Missed from directly in front 45m out.

20min - SCORE – Port Adelaide goal – Damon White
Got a handball from Krakouer then played on and kicked well from 45m. Port Adelaide on top now. Good skills and would be up in the inside 50 count.

22min - SCORE – Port Adelaide goal – Damon White
Willits found White on the lead. Great set shot from a tight angle 48m out.

23min - SCORE – Sydney goal – Ryan O’Keefe
Instant reply having won the centre clearance.

27min - SCORE – Port Adelaide goal – Ryan Willits
Won a free kick 30 out directly in front. He leapt into the back of his opponent and hurt him (he’s ok) so the free must have come before that.

27min - SCORE – Sydney goal – Nick Laidlaw
Won a free kick 20m out against Chaplin for hanging on.

Quarter time - COMMENT
A very entertaining first quarter, with lots of fast, free flowing footy with the Power on top in most departments. Brett Ebert looks very dangerous up forward, as does Damon White. Chad and Surjan are getting quite a bit of the ball in defence, setting up play. Looking good at this early stage in what must be fairly trying conditions with the humidity.

Port Adelaide 4.6 (30)
Sydney 3.2 (20)
