PORT Adelaide defender Alipate Carlile is in doubt for the club's clash with Fremantle at AAMI Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but forward Jay Schulz has recovered from a hamstring complaint and will take his place in the team.

Carlile was absent from the Power's final training session of the week on Friday.

It is suspected he has flu, but coach Matthew Primus said he expected the full-back to play against Fremantle.

"We're going to test him [Carlile] tomorrow and see how he comes up, so he's in some kind of doubt," Primus said on Friday.

"I'd say he's more likely to play. He trained fully Wednesday and was no worries….we're more confident he will play, but we've got to see how he runs and gets through tomorrow morning."

Schulz suffered a minor hamstring injury in Port Adelaide's loss to the Sydney Swans last weekend, but completed training on Friday.

The Power have made only one change following their 62-point defeat at the hands of the Swans, recalling young defender Jasper Pittard at the expense of forward Daniel Stewart.
"
Emergencies Chad Cornes and Cam O'Shea both trained with the team on Friday.

Cornes won't play for Glenelg on Friday night, but Primus indicated the 31-year-old was likely to be overlooked in favour of O'Shea if Carlile failed to prove his fitness.

"Fremantle don't have too many talls [in attack] apart from Kepler Bradley," he said.

"So we think with Troy Chaplin, Jackson Trengove and Michael Pettigrew down there it just about covers it [without another key defender]."

Cornes has been limited to five games this season as a result of the club's rebuilding process and expressed his frustration at the situation in a radio interview on Thursday night.

The premiership player and dual All-Australian praised Primus for his support, but alluded to the fact he didn't have the support of other members of the coaching staff.

Primus denied Cornes' claims, and vowed not to bow to public pressure to select the 235-game player.

"Chad has the support of everyone at the football club. He's a terrific player. He's done a hell of a lot for our club and we'll treat him with the respect he deserves, but on the flipside of that we know where our future as a club lies," he said.

"[I've said] from day dot that Chad would play some role in that [rebuilding process] depending on his form [and the form of] our other key forwards at the club.

"Every player is going to be disappointed when they come to the end of their career, but that's the way it goes.

"We don't think it's getting messy. It's obviously a topical point, but we as a club know and I know which direction we're heading in."

Fremantle has recalled Hayden Ballantyne, Rhys Palmer and Dylan Roberton, and rushed mature-age debutant Tendai Mzungu into the team to play Port Adelaide.

Ex-Adelaide ruckman Jon Griffin has also made the trip to Adelaide as an emergency.

The omission of Stewart leaves the Power with only one recognised ruckman in Dean Brogan.

Primus said the onus would be on his midfielders to win their share of clearances.

"We know Aaron Sandilands is a dominant ruckman, but we know 'Broges' can compete pretty well against him," he said.

"We don't think we're exposing ourselves. 'Broges' isn't at 100 per cent, but Sandilands isn't either. In the end, it comes down to the mindset of our onballers more so than having a dominance over our ruckmen."
