WATCH highlights of Danyle Pearce's game for Sturt last week. Can't see the video? Watch on YouTube

LAST week’s SANFL matches saw many stand-out performances from players listed with the Power in both the SANFL league and reserves matches.

Matthew Nicks was privileged to watch the thriller between the Magpies and the Roosters at Alberton Oval, with Andrew Moore the standout in the league match and Brendon Ah Chee in reserves.

Tyson Edwards saw Danyle Pearce play an influential role for Sturt against the Eagles which saw him named Player of the Week.. Jarrad Redden also played well in the ruck for Woodville-West Torrens.

Development Manager Daniel Healy watched Norwood v West Adelaide and was impressed with Daniel Webb’s ruckwork for West.

SANFL Player of the Week:

Danyle Pearce (for Double Blues v Eagles)
29 disposals, 4 marks, 8 clearances, 3 inside 50s and 4 rebound 50s

Danyle had a very good game with 29 possessions and 8 clearances and 6 tackles and it was his second game in the SANFL. It was a really good game for him and he will be pushing for selection [AFL] this week. He played half-forward, midfield, half-back and was all over the ground so it was a really good game for Pearcy.

League Players

Mitch Banner (for Port Adelaide v Roosters)
19 disposals, 7 marks, 3 clearances, 2 inside 50s

Mitch was a little bit a sore coming into the game and that hindered him throughout. He finished with 19 possessions and the effort was there but he just couldn’t quite get himself around the ground. His week (this week) will be interesting just to see where he goes from here as far as his body goes.

Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Port Adelaide)
7 disposals, 2 marks

Nathan played down back, had a few big jobs - was beaten in the early stages, but fought it out. He didn’t have a lot of the ball, so probably not his best game for the season but he did learn a lot from it.

Andrew Moore (for Roosters v Port Adelaide)
20 disposals, 5 marks, 8 clearances, 5 insides 50s, 1 rebound 50

I saw another quality game from him, finishing with 20 possessions, with a lot of really strong body work over the footy in stopages and ended up kicking a couple of goals. He probably could have kicked four in the end which might have been the difference and got North up. We were happy with his efforts.

Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Redlegs)
10 disposals, 3 marks, 3 clearances, 3 inside 50s

Daniel played in the ruck for West Adelaide. He led the ruck and his ruck work was very good, his second efforts and hunting of the ball was very good. He didn’t have an impact up-forward, but he continues to look promising as a ruckman.

Darren Pfeiffer (for Redlegs v Bloods)
22 disposals, 4 marks, 5 clearances, 4 inside 50s and 1 rebound 50

Darren played a fairly good game. He was able to manage 22 possessions, 5 clearances and showed that he is a very good player at SANFL level and also kicked a goal.

Matt Thomas (for Redlegs v Bloods)
17 disposals, 2 marks, 5 clearances, 3 inside 50s and 1 rebound 50

Matt had a solid evening, with 17 possessions. He had a good number of clearances and about eight tackles. Matt played really tough, as we expect him to and he also kicked a goal.

Steven Salopek (for Tigers v Central)
11 disposals, 3 marks, 2 clearances, 1 inside 50

Sal played out at Glenelg in the League again this week, played in a couple of spots in a team which was pretty soundly beaten by Centrals in most respects - particularly the scoreboard! He got 11 disposals and a couple of clearances but unfortunately a bit of a quiet game from him.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles v Sturt)
13 disposals, 6 marks, 1 clearance and 2 insides 50s

Jarrad played forward and ruck for the Eagles and had a good game. His ruck work was really good, he was dangerous up forward, taking a couple of marks and having a few shots at goal which was good for him.

Reserves Players

Brendon Ah Chee (for Port Adelaide reserves v Roosters)
20 disposals, 9 marks, 4 clearances, 1 inside 50, 3 rebounds 50s

Brendon was really impressive, his efforts were great, there’s no doubt that he is a very good inside player. He is explosive, he attacks the ball hard, but the focus was to work on his outside stuff, getting uncontested footy, and he did that finishing with 9 marks for the game, and he had a real positive influence on the game. His pressure acts were up, high, finishing fourth in his team’s pressure acts, so we are really happy with that.

Danny Butcher (for Roosters reserves v Port Adelaide)
15 disposals, 6 marks, 2 clearances, 1 inside 50, 3 rebounds 50s

Danny played in reserves for North and he had a slow start to the game, really struggled to inject himself into the game during the first quarter and then started to get himself involved in the second. He had a fantastic third quarter with 10 possessions, playing more on ball in the third quarter rather than high forward, showing his strength which is his inside work - some really good contested ball work. He finished off the final quarter with four or five possessions, so not a bad effort considering the slow start.

Matthew Lobbe (for Glenelg reserves v Central)
11 disposals, 1 mark and 5 clearances

Matthew played in the ruck for Glenelg’s reserves team. He took a mark in the forward lines and kicked a goal as well. We would like him to get more involved around the ground, he ended up with 11 possessions and certainly his ruck work was very good and he is moving freely.

Ben Newton (for Bloods v Redlegs)

8 disposals, 1 mark, 1 clearance, 1 inside 50 and 1 rebound 50

Ben played in the midfield for West. Ben only had 15 possessions and kicked two goals, but his night was better than the number of disposals. Ben did a lot of really good work around the stoppages first possession stuff, where he just got tackled as he got the ball and he continues to improve. He spread out of stoppage to kick his two goals and was really impressive. We continue to see good signs from him and he’s getting closer and closer to a league game each week.

Mitch Currow (for Double Blues v Eagles)
6 disposals, 2 clearances, 1 inside 50

Mitch played in the reserves for Sturt and played the whole game ruck. He ended up with just the five possessions. Mitch is getting a lot better at spreading around the ground and getting some marking contests which is pleasing - it’s something that he has been working on and needs to keep working on. He has also been aggressive which is a key for him.

Jarrad Irons (for Eagles v Double Blues)
19 disposals, 4 marks, 3 clearances, 2 inside 50s and 1 rebound 50

Jarrad played for Eagles in reserves and he played wing the whole game. It was his second game back from injury and ended up with 19 possessions and 4 tackles. It wasn’t one of his better games. However there were some positives as he still got a few possessions, although he didn’t play very well. He needs to work a bit harder and needs to work on his effectiveness with possessions because he fumbled a bit on the weekend. Hopefully after being back for a few games, Jarrad will have a better game this weekend.
