Enemy Lines: Sheedy Clocks 1000
The AFL will celebrate Kevin Sheedy at this weekend's Giants v Power game as the master coach brings up his 1000th game involvement in the VFL/AFL.
AFL master coach Kevin Sheedy will celebrate his 1000th match in VFL/AFL football this weekend as he coaches the GWS Giants against Port Adelaide.
Sheedy has been involved in first class Australian Football for the past forty years having made his playing debut with Richmond in 1967.
The Round 19 clash between the GWS Giants and Port Adelaide will mark 251 premiership games and 8 pre-season matches as a player at the Tigers, eight State games as a player for Victoria, 652 premiership games as a coach of Essendon and the GWS Giants, four state games as a coach with Victoria and four International Rules matches as a coach of Australia.
It is a significant record unlikely to be rivalled in the modern age of Australian football.
The Giants will recognise their coach on Saturday against the Power at Skoda Stadium.
The milestone caps off another significant landmark for the new AFL franchise, after the Giants recently broke the record for the most number of NAB Rising Star nominations in a premiership season.
