PORT ADELAIDE fans at Sunday’s game against Essendon will be treated to a performance by First Nations entertainer Mitch Tambo as part of the club’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round celebrations.

A proud Gamilaraay man, Tambo blends traditional Aboriginal sounds and language with contemporary beats and production.

Tambo garnered international recognition for his powerful First Nations version of the iconic John Farnham anthem, You’re The Voice, and has since continued to share his experiences and learnings through music on an international stage.

His music is centred around meaningful sentiment and stories relating to his own personal journey and story, and what is important to him as a Gamilaraay man.

The celebration of womanhood is a key theme for Tambo, who is passionate about raising awareness against bias and to celebrate the achievements of women.

Tambo’s performance will take place at half time and is one of a number of celebrations to be undertaken as part of Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

The curtain raiser for the clash against the Bombers will be the Santos Aboriginal Power Cup Grand Finals, which are the culmination of the week-long carnival which engages young Aboriginal students from around South Australia in their education and workforce pathways.

2022 marks the 15th year the program has been delivered, with over 5,000 students having participated in that time.

Following the grand finals, the participating students will also deliver a cultural performance on the oval.

The ceremonial first goal of the game will be slotted by former club captain Corey Ah Chee, before Senior Aboriginal Man, and past player, Michael O’Brien performs a live welcome to country.

Port Adelaide and Essendon’s Indigenous players will also engage in a cultural gift exchange prior to first bounce.
