PORT ADELAIDE has succumbed to North Adelaide by 47 points in wintery SANFL conditions at Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon.
A goalless opening term saw the home side playing catch-up before a dominant six-goals-to-one second half saw the Roosters prevail 12.16 (88) to 5.11 (41).
The Magpies were buoyed by the returning Orazio Fantasia, but his return was cut short as he was ruled out early with a quad complaint in the first quarter.
It was the cherry on top of a nightmare opening term as the Roosters piled on four straight goals to open up a 24-point advantage at the first change and give the hosts a significant challenge.
The Magpies looked like a different side in the second term, with Dante Visentini sending the first message by thumping the ball out of the square in the first contest.
After Xavier Duursma missed a shot, Mitch Georgiades showcased his class with a volley out of the pack to send home the Magpies’ first.
He’d have his second just moments later before Port had its third on the trot through Ethan Moore, who received a free kick and sent it home.
The Roosters got one back from a down the field free kick before Dante Vistenini decided he was having none of it and kicked one from the goal square.
North got a steadier just on half-time, but its 24-point quarter-time lead had evaporated rapidly into a 10-point one instead.
Despite Port’s momentum going into the major break, North drew first blood through Keenan Ramsey.
The Magpies were under siege for the next 20 minutes as the Roosters peppered their goals, but struggled to find the big sticks.
Things turned from bad to worse for Port with captain Cam Sutcliffe coming from the field limping, although he would later return down back.
Georgiades looked like he had his third on the board as he ran into 50 and converted, but the umpire deemed he had run too far without a bounce, which frustrated the home fans.
North took advantage and finally made the most of its opportunities through Lachlan Grubb’s second to push the margin out to 27 points at the final change with a late goal.
The Roosters continued from where they left off in the third and peppered their goal, before kicking what looked to be a sealer to make it a 35-point margin early in the last.
Ollie Lord halted Port’s goal drought following a terrific mark and major from the set shot.
Any momentum the Magpies had was quickly halted by Dyson Hilder, who was too tall and converted from the square.
North added a further two for the game to blow the margin out and give Port its sixth loss for the year.
