WATCH highlights of Brett Ebert on PTV above

It was a big week for the Port Adelaide football club’s players in the SANFL with some impressive performances across the city.

Tyson Edwards saw Brett Ebert bang home five goals in the Magpies loss to South Adelaide whilst playing on teammate Cam O’Shea.

Matthew Nicks spent an enjoyable Friday night watching Glenelg win convincingly over Sturt, with Tommy Logan again impressive for the Bays whilst Steven Salopek dominated the reserves.

Daniel Healy saw Norwood beat the Roosters and also evaluates our Bloods-listed players who played in a diluted West Adelaide side in the Foxtel Cup.

SANFL

Player of the Week

Brett Ebert (for Port Adelaide v Panthers)
17 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle, 2 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 5 goals

Ebo was very good - kicked 5.1, had 15 disposals and was very lively up forward. Every time the ball came in there we were just waiting for him to do something there and he was looking very dangerous. He did a number of other little one percenters around the ground as well which is always pleasing to see - a very good game from him.

Brendon AhChee (for Port Adelaide reserves v Panthers)
16 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 5 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 2 goals

Had quite a good game, ended up with 19 possessions, a couple of goals and his stoppage work was very good. We’ve been working on spreading with him. In the last quarter there was some good examples of him spreading - in about the fourth minute of the last quarter he started from the backline, tackles an opponent and follows it up with a goal. That was particularly good to see from him and quite a good game overall.

Cam O’Shea (for Panthers v Port Adelaide)
10 disposals, 6 marks, 1 inside 50, 1 rebound 50, 2 goals

Cam stood on Brett Ebert for the first half and was good as far as defending goes. He got beaten once by Ebo where Brett took a mark and kicked a goal. He did his job there without getting much of the ball. In the second half he rotated to the wing and half forward and kicked a couple of goals in the third quarter. He didn’t get a heap of the ball and we’re trying to work on him getting a bit more of the footy.

Steve Salopek (for Tigers reserves v Double Blues)
29 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 12 clearances, 5 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s, 1 goal

Sal went back and really racked and stacked them. Had about 30 possessions, ended up with six tackles and a number of clearances. From a numbers point of view it was good for him to go back, play at reserves level and perform to such a high extent. We expected nothing less from him and it was great to see him go back with the right attitude and perform.

Mitch Curnow (for Double Blues reserves v Tigers)
9 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 35 hit outs, 3 clearances

This was probably Mitch’s best game for a couple of months. He dominated the ruck early but probably got a little fatigued as the game went on and dropped off a bit in that area. He got to a number of marking contests around the ground which is something we’ve been working on. We were quite pleased with his efforts and hopefully he can work through a few other things and continue to improve.

Tom Logan (for Tigers v Double Blues)
13 disposals, 5 marks, 1 clearance, 2 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s

Tommy was really solid and started on-ball before going to half back in the last three quarters. Great effort from Tommy - finished mid teens possession-wise. His handling of the ball was second-to-none once again and he’ll be pushing for AFL selection.

Cameron Hitchcock (for Tigers v Double Blues)
14 disposals, 5 marks, 1 clearance, 2 inside 50s, 4 goals

It was definitely Cam’s best game since he’s come back from injury. He kicked 4 goals and was a real opportunist, real hard work at full pace and with lots of bursts so a real good game for him.

Tom Jonas (for Redlegs v Roosters)
7 disposals, 4 marks, 1 rebound 50

Tom played centre half back on Clint Alleway and did a fantastic job keeping him almost touchless in the first half. Tommy had 7 touches himself and was looking to get involved in Norwood’s ball-movement which was really pleasing. Tommy unfortunately hurt his knee later on in the game and will probably miss about two weeks.

Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Roosters)
12 disposals, 2 marks, 1 tackle, 2 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 2 goals

Simon didn’t have a huge impact on the game although he did kick two goals. He was lively enough but didn’t wasn’t able to put the same pressure on or taking the ball as cleanly as we would have liked - so that probably affected him and his ability to take the game on.

Matt Thomas (for Redlegs v Roosters)
23 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 2 clearances, 5 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s

Played on-ball and had 23 possessions. Matt is looking to work on his spread out of stoppages and had 5 inside 50s which would indicate that. He didn’t have as many clearances as he would have liked but was tough as usual.

Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Redlegs)
21 disposals, 3 marks, 2 clearances, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s

Blee played down back for North and once again his offensive stuff was very good with 21 possessions and helping North to rebound the footy. He still needs to work on his defensive stuff but led up to the footy a couple of times and turned the ball over a couple of times. What’s impressing us is his ability to get involved in backline transition and we think that will work for us long term.

Andrew Moore (for Roosters v Redlegs)
13 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 2 clearances, 2 goals

Andrew played at half-back and on-ball for North Adelaide in his first league game. We were pretty pleased with him - he certainly has got intensity and urgency about him which is what we’ve been looking for. He only had 13 touches but kicked 2 goals and was good around some stoppages so w’ere making progress.

Danny Butcher (for Roosters reserves v Redlegs)
14 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 1 clearance, 1 goal
Danny played on-ball and forward and he started O.K. - kicking a goal in the first quarter - but then died out of the game as it went on. His workrate wasn’t as good as he would have wanted, he got 11 touches but most of those were in the first half. He’s still getting over a few injuries and just needs to find some fitness.

Foxtel Cup

Ben Newton, Matt Lobbe and Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Claremont)
Newton: 7 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 2 inside 50s
Lobbe: 2 disposals, 2 marks, 20 hitouts, 1 tackle, 2 inside 50s
Webb: 6 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle

West took an undermanned side to WA to play in the Foxtel Cup and got well and truly smashed. Benny Newton, Matt Lobbe and Daniel Webb all travelled with them. Newton played at half back and had 7 possessions - kept his man quiet but didn’t do much himself. Matt Lobbe rucked very well with 20 hit outs and only had a few possessions, but still a good step for him as he returns from injury. Webby started centre half back (something new for him) and then went forward, but he wasn’t able to have a huge impact on the game - it was difficult for all of them in what was a big loss for the Bloods.
