THREE goals in enemy territory was the cherry on the top of an “absolutely sick” SANFL debut against Central District for mid-season draftee Brynn Teakle.
The 23-year-old, donning the number 54 prison bar guernsey, made Elizabeth Oval his own with three goals, 13 touches and seven marks in an impressive first appearance for the club.
After his first taste of victory in a Port Adelaide jumper, Teakle is eager for more.
“It was absolutely sick…it's good to get a win with the boys, it was a close game for most of it, but we kicked away in the end,” he said.
“I'm over the moon.”
His debut was off to the perfect start within minutes as he managed to snag an outrageous checkside goal from 40 metres out on the run, but he admits he knew very little of it until it was sailing home.
“I actually didn't see it when it came off the boot,” he said. “But when I looked up and it was floating through, I put the finger up and the guys got around me.”
It’s been a whirlwind week for the West Australian, who arrived in South Australia eight days before his first game.
But he said he’s been welcomed with open arms by the playing group.
“The boys have been really good and welcoming, and I'm loving my time here already, it feels like I've been here for six months already,” he said.
In addition to the playing group, Teakle said he’d had plenty of support from his coaches, including Magpies mentor Matthew Lokan during the game.
“He said at halftime that he was just loving the energy and to just keep trying to take the boys with you and get their heads up,” he said.
“That was probably the biggest thing he said, to just have fun and bring that energy that you bring at the moment.”
With one game down, the mullet-haired tall is looking forward to more, and hopefully even a look in at AFL level.
