PORT ADELAIDE defender Riley Bonner will have surgery this week after suffering a fractured cheekbone and eye socket in yesterday’s win over the Gold Coast at Adelaide Oval.
Bonner was hurt in a collision late in the second quarter but was able to play out the game.
The 25-year-old is expected to miss three to four weeks of football as he recovers.
The club could however welcome back Zak Butters from injury ahead of this Sunday’s game against Fremantle.
Butters will need to show he has overcome the sprained medial ligament in his left knee that kept him out of the win over the Suns.
Ruckman Scott Lycett will also return to full training as he nears a return to playing. Lycett has not featured since suffering a dislocated shoulder against Melbourne in Round 4 and having corrective surgery.
Forward Ollie Lord will be assessed during the week after missing the SANFL game against Glenelg on Saturday.
Lord was a late withdrawal after experiencing hamstring tightness in the warm-up.
Defenders Darcy Byrne-Jones and Tom Clurey will clear the health and safety protocols and be in the frame to face the Dockers in Perth on Sunday.
Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name an extended squad for the game before naming its final team on Friday afternoon.
The first bounce for Sunday’s game is at 3:20pm AWST / 4:50pm ACST.
