Port Adelaide’s players have spent their first full day in New Zealand hiking in the high country as part of their pre-season camp.
Almost the entire playing group is roughing it a couple of hours outside of Christchurch, taking in the beautiful - if back-breaking - terrain of the South Island.
After travelling to the region on Monday, the group - including most of the coaches and draftees Chad Wingard, Brendon Ah Chee and Nathan Blee - camped in the open, braving damp and cold conditions.
The players have broken into teams, with Hamish Hartlett leading a group including Steven Salopek, Danyle Pearce, Matthew Lobbe and Cameron Hitchcock.
“There’s a good mix of youth and experience there,” Hartlett told PTV. “Hitchy’s the one who’s surprised me the most.”
