CONNOR ROZEE headlines Port Adelaide’s list of nominees for the AFL Players’ Association Most Valuable Player award for 2022.
Rozee has been a revelation since moving into the midfield in Round 5, averaging 23 disposals and three clearances and being nominated as part of the AFLPA’s 22under22 squad for the second time.
The 22-year-old played every game this season has also booted 18 important goals.
As well as Rozee, forwards Sam Powell-Pepper and Todd Marshall have been nominated for the MVP award.
Powell-Pepper has been one of the more consistent performers for the club, playing as a hard-tackling pressure forward who has also booted a career-high 24 goals this year.
He ranks elite among the competition’s forwards for disposals and marks, averaging 16.6 disposals and 4.7 marks per game in 2022.
Marshall finished the season as the club’s leading goal kicker in a break-out season. He kicked a career-best 46 goals and averaged 5.5 marks per game.
Port Adelaide captain Tom Jonas has again been nominated for the Most Courageous player award and is automatically nominated as the best captain, while his fellow defender Jase Burgoyne is the club’s nominee as the Best First Year player.
The nomination for the MVP Award is a two-stage process. The first involves players nominating three teammates for the award, before three nominees from every club are presented to the wider playing group for a vote to decide the winner.
Players cannot vote for their own teammates in stage two of the process
A similar process is followed for Best First Year player and Most Courageous, however just one player is nominated from each club.
The winners will be announced at the AFL Players’ MVP Awards event on Wednesday 24 August, broadcast live on Fox Footy.
Marcus Bontempelli (MVP), Errol Gulden (Best First Year), Jack Steele (Most Courageous), and Bontempelli (Best Captain) were the 2021 award winners.
