PORT ADELAIDE, in partnership with Adelaide-based film production company 57 Films, will tomorrow night premiere The Inaugurals, a documentary showcasing the development from the ground up of Port Adelaide’s first AFLW program.
The Inaugurals will screen exclusively on Ch 7 Adelaide tomorrow at 9.00pm, with an encore screening on 7mate on Saturday at 1.30pm, ahead of the club’s first game against West Coast in Perth.
The documentary takes viewers on a journey from the moment Juliet Haslam was announced as the club’s first AFLW appointment through to the teams’ final build up ahead of the upcoming season.
The Inaugurals provides behind-the-scenes insights into the appointment of Head Coach Lauren Arnell, the announcement of star recruit Erin Phillips, the emotional moment the Cockatoo-Motlap twins were told of their place on the Power’s list and inner-sanctum access to the club’s first AFLW draft night.
Directed by 57 Films’ Nicole Miller, several Port Adelaide representatives shared their stories in the documentary including Fremantle recruit Gemma Houghton, along with Haslam, Arnell, Phillips and the Cockatoo-Motlap twins.
Daniel Norton, Port Adelaide GM – Media and Communications and Executive Producer of The Inaugurals, says the documentary provides a rare insight into what it takes to build a high-performance program from the ground up.
“This documentary will appeal to anyone with an interest in building a high-performance team from scratch in a very limited time frame,” Mr Norton said.
“It’s important to remember that at the start of our AFLW build we were expecting the season to commence in late November. For the season to be brought forward by three months was a significant shift which produced an even greater sense of urgency. This is all captured within this documentary.
“Most importantly, this production captures an historic moment in time. There is only ever one first. To able to document the emergence of our first ever AFLW program in a club that is more than 152 years old was a story we wanted to share with our members, supporters and all football followers.
“Storytelling and providing inner sanctum access is a key strategic pillar for Port Adelaide and we know this story will appeal to people of all ages and from all backgrounds.
