PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Hannah Ewings is officially the best young player in the AFLW, winning the NAB Rising Star award for Season 7 at the W Awards on Tuesday evening.

In a first for the league, two players from the same club were voted in first and second place, with Abbey Dowrick named the Rising Star runner up.

Ewings claimed an emphatic win with 41 votes, Dowrick was awarded 32 votes and Hawthorn’s Jasmine Fleming came in third with 17 votes.

Nominated for the prestigious award after the Power’s Round 3 draw with Carlton, Ewings collected 21 disposals, five clearances and four tackles in just her third AFLW appearance.

In Port Adelaide’s Round 4 win over Sydney, the clever midfielder became the first AFLW player to register nine or more clearances and three or more goals in a match.

As South Australia’s number one pick at the 2022 Draft, she won more clearances than any other first-year player this season and ranked equal-second in the same cohort for most inside 50s.

Runner-up Dowrick’s Rising Star nomination saw the then-teenage midfielder start her AFLW career with a bang, collecting 21 disposals, six clearances and four tackles in Round 1.

Across her 10 games, she averaged 14.4 disposals, 6.1 tackles, 2.9 clearances and 300.4 metres gained.

Dowrick and Ewings have combined to become a highly entertaining on-field duo this season, sparking excitement among fans for what’s to come.
