Bob Quinn is chaired from the ground after Port Adelaide's win over West Torrens in the 1939 Grand Final, he would soon after deploy for the war and show his bravery on the field of battle.

THE on-field feats of Port Adelaide great Robert Berrima (Bob) Quinn MM will be posthumously recognised with his induction to the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame.

Sport SA announced on Monday that Quinn would be one of the 2023 inductees when the Hall of Fame gala event takes place next month.

Quinn played 239 games and booted 386 goals for Port Adelaide between 1933 and 1947, winning a Magarey Medal as the fairest and most brilliant player in the SANFL either side of military service during World War II.

A captain and coach of the club, Quinn was part of three premiership sides in 1936, 1937 and 1939, and won four club best and fairest awards – two following his distinguished military career in which he was awarded a Military Medal for bravery during the Siege of Tobruk.

Twice a club leading goalkicker (in 1937 and 1945), Quinn also tallied 15 games for South Australia, many as captain, and was named the All-Australian captain in 1947.

His list of accolades also includes being inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996 and the South Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2002.

Quinn will join fellow Port Adelaide players Fos Williams AM (2011 inductee), Russell Ebert OAM (2012) and John Cahill (2018) in the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame.

Four-time Magarey Medallist, Ebert was in 2021 elevated to Legend status, just prior to his passing.

The South Australian Sport Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held at Adelaide Oval on Friday 3 March.
