PORT ADELAIDE senior coach Ken Hinkley says they will be cautious of a wounded Richmond team, but he is more concerned about how he wants his side to play.
Speaking on SEN’s Whateley, Hinkley stressed the importance of playing the Port Adelaide brand of football and not worrying about the game-style of the opposition.
“It’s important not to get lost in what other teams are trying to do or not do but try and stick the course on what we need to do,” Hinkley said.
“I think that’s probably a little learning for us from last year.
“We need to make sure we are playing a game-style that’s suitable to us and not get lost in something else.
“I think that’s the important thing for us, is that we continue to deal with the way we want to play and the way we want to do things and not worry about the opposition.”
The Tigers will be without skipper Trent Cotchin, Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin and All-Australian members Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt for Saturday’s blockbuster clash with the Power, but Hinkley doesn’t believe it will change the way Damien Hardwick’s men will play.
“Any situation when you play a great side and Richmond have been a great side over the last few years is that their style won’t change,” he said.
“Their personnel won’t be the same but their style of football and the way they want to play will be very similar.
“Damien (Hardwick) will have the new people coming in playing a similar way so that will be easy enough to handle, it’s just then the scenario of different people.
“Richmond will use that for some internal motivation, I’m sure, and for us, we’ve just got to be motivated by the way we play.”
The Power host the Tigers at Adelaide Oval in Round 4 on Saturday 13 April from 4.05pm.
