TRAVIS BOAK called for a big turnout for Port Adelaide's first night game at the Adelaide Oval on Monday.

By 10:00pm on Saturday night, he and his teammates walked off their city home applauded by a record sea of black, white and teal.

An unprecedented attendance of 52,233 spectators turned out to watch the Power and Hawks duke it out under lights - the highest crowd figure ever posted at an AFL game in South Australia.

Power defeats Hawks in thriller

It eclipses the Power's previous best crowd at the ground - 50,395 against Adelaide in Round 2 - and non-Showdown attendance of 47,007 against Geelong in Round 6.

Port Adelaide's skipper Travis Boak wrote to reserved-seat members early in the week asking them to loan their membership card to a friend or family member if they couldn't attend the game.

And with only a smattering of empty chairs around the stadium, it's clear the club faithful responded to his request.

Senior coach Ken Hinkley praised the club's supporters for turning out to the game en masse.

"What a great effort by the Port Adelaide Football Club," Hinkley told reporters after the game.

"What is really significant is our members and our fans turning up and filling it [Adelaide Oval] up.

"We asked them all week to come along and help us out.

"They're playing their part and they're playing their part amazingly well."

Round 10 talking points

There was no denying the pride and sincerity written all over Hinkley's face when making those remarks, and his were views shared by the whole team.

"The boys said they [the supporters] were just fantastic; 'make sure you thank our members, thank the way they support us,'" Hinkley said.

"We really appreciate them."

As the season edges towards its halfway point, a 3-game or general admission membership is shaping as the best way to see Port Adelaide play at the Adelaide Oval for the rest of the season.

With three blockbuster night games against blue ribbon sides Essendon, Sydney and Carlton still to come, the 3-game membership for $100 shapes as a premium ticket to see the Power in action under lights.

But the General Admission membership is still great value at $175 and will provide access subject to capacity to those and other day games against St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne.
