PORT ADELAIDE currently sits 11th on the AFL ladder after the first eight rounds with a 4-4 record, but co-captain Tom Jonas believes his side is getting a lot right.

Jonas says there is still plenty of belief and confidence at Alberton, despite the up and down start to the year.

“We are very confident about our game-plan and the way we are going about it,” Jonas told FIVEaa’s Rowey and Bicks.

“We are getting a lot right - we are 4-4 but we are playing some pretty good footy.

“Two of the games we lost by a whisker and we’ve beaten a couple of really strong sides as well.”

Jonas is one of a number of established players currently on Port’s injury list, but he says the young group is still producing some really exciting football.

“We are getting so much right and eventually it’s all going to click,” he said.

“We are playing that forward half footy.

“It would be nice to have Robbie Gray down there - he takes the best match-up - that frees up Rozee and right now he is probably our key target.

“We are playing so much of the game how we want to, it’s just those final little bits.”

The 28-year-old is very wary of the young and talented Gold Coast outfit, despite the Power pushing for a tenth consecutive win against the Suns.

“They’ve got a lot of talent,” Jonas said.

“Young (Jack) Lukosius down there - I had a run around on him in pre-season a year or two ago and that was a tough task.

“Two-metre Peter (Wright) and (Alex) Sexton has bobbed up and kicked a lot of goals, so they are really going to challenge us.

“Hopefully our mids can keep doing a good job and not letting the ball come in (to our defensive 50).”

Port hosts the Suns at Adelaide Oval on Sunday from 12.40pm, with kids under the age of 15 in for free.
