Aboriginal Power Cup to make Adelaide Oval debut
Over 400 students from across the state are finalising their preparations for the 2014 Aboriginal Power Cup Carnival from May 22-24
In the past week staff from Power Community Ltd and our team of elite athletes have visited schools in Coober Pedy, Port Lincoln and Whyalla to support students as they complete tasks from the SACE Unit written for the Aboriginal Power Cup.
Students commenced the SACE subject in February which adopted a new theme – One Mob Leading Together. Students have designed their team guernseys for the carnival, established a team war-cry, explored their cultural heritage and set future career goals.
The teams will meet at Alberton Oval for 140 games of 9-A-Side football, a Career and Lifestyle Expo, workshops on empowerment, leadership, team work and resilience, and a memorable social experience. The male and female teams will be doing everything possible to make the final on Saturday May 24, played at Adelaide Oval for the first time prior to Power v Hawthorn.
For the first time all students will participate in a cultural walk on May 24 commencing at Victoria Square and taking in Tandanya, the SA Museum, the River Torrens, the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander War Memorial, and finishing at Pinkie Flat, the home of the first Kaurna School in Adelaide. Students will then enter Adelaide Oval as One Mob and perform a cultural dance at the Oval.
Power Community Ltd works with the SA Aboriginal Sports Training Academy to deliver the Aboriginal Power Cup which continues to evolve. We thank our long term Major Partners Santos and the South Australian Government. We also receive amazing support from Transfield Services, Beach Energy, UniSA, Maxima, Defence Force Recruiting, Fairmont Homes, SA Dental Service and the Aboriginal Health Council of SA.
