Port Adelaide’s not-for-profit, Power Community Limited (PCL), has been recognised at the 2024 Governor’s Multicultural Awards for the outstanding impact they are having on young people in South Australia.
The annual awards recognise and celebrate outstanding South Australians who promote multiculturalism and increase the understanding of the benefits of cultural diversity in our community.
PCL’s Multicultural Power Cup program was successful in receiving the Community Sector Award which celebrates and recognises a not-for-profit who has made an impact through the promotion of multiculturalism and improving community harmony and inclusion.
The Multicultural Power Cup was established in 2018 and has since engaged over 5,000 young secondary school students from culturally diverse backgrounds across South Australia.
The program curriculum has been carefully designed to leverage AFL and AFLW players to effectively celebrate cultural diversity and expression, promote inclusion, and build social cohesion by improving student’s confidence through personal identity,
In addition to the implementation of the program, to strengthen outcomes and support a community led approach, PCL established the Multicultural Power Cup advisory committee to further the impact across diverse communities in South Australia.
General Manager of Power Community Limited, Jake Battifuoco said he was proud to receive the award on behalf of the broader team, and advisory committee.
“We’re really proud to receive the Community Sector Award at the 2024 Governor’s Multicultural Awards,” Mr. Battifuoco said.
“I’d like to thank Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia for the valued recognition, in addition to our program partners, and importantly the school teachers and students involved across the state.
“The Multicultural Power Cup is an important program for Power Community, and last year engaged more than 400 students from over 52 countries.
“We recognise sport is a universal language, and through our program we have the ability to connect, inspire and foster a sense of community for many culturally diverse communities across South Australia.
“We’re looking forward to building on the success of the program this year, including expanding to Whyalla for the first time”.
