THE Port Adelaide Football Club is saddened by the passing of triple premiership player Ron Elleway at the age of 81.
A fierce defender and at times ruckman across 204 SANFL games, Elleway was renowned for his foot skills, speed and aerial ability across his decade-long career.
After debuting for Port Adelaide in 1961, he was part of a premiership side in his second season, going on to be part of the teams that also claimed the ultimate success in 1963 and 1965.
Elleway also represented South Australia on nine occasions.
Named a SANFL life member in 1972, Elleway and his 1962, 1963 and 1965 premiership teammates were inducted into the Port Adelaide Football Club Hall of Fame in 2019 at an event he attended.
The Port Adelaide Football Club extends its sincerest condolences to his wife Barb and wider family, his friends and former club mates.
