THE Port Adelaide development team was back in action this week with Daniel Healy, Matthew Nicks and Tyson Edwards reviewing the performances of the Power's SANFL players.

Steven Salopek was named Player of the Week for a standout performance in Port Adelaide's SANFL side with 32 possessions.

Simon Phillips played one of his best games in a losing Norwood side and took a contender for Mark of the Year to boot.

SANFL Player of the Week

Steven Salopek (for Port Adelaide v Eagles)
32 disposals, 10 marks, 1 tackle, 2 clearances, 6 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s

Sal was best on ground for the Maggies in a pretty solid performance for him. He found a lot of the ball and ran and spread well. He had 32 possessions which was really positive and he was very influential for the Magpies, but we're still looking for him to improve his defensive game which is an area that he is still lacking the consistency we require.

Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Bloods)
15 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle, 2 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s, 2 goals

Flip had a fantastic first half - probably his best half of footy that we’ve seen him play since being at the club. His spread, hard defensive work and forward pressure were right up there. He took probably one of the marks of the year in the first quarter. After playing reserves last week to come back into the side and be so influential is a really good sign.

Reserves

Mitch Banner (for Port Adelaide v Eagles)
33 disposals, 10 marks, 1 tackle, 4 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 4 rebound 50s, 2 goals

Mitchy really came into the game in the second half. He had 8 touches to half time and so to finish with 33 disposals highlights how much impact he had on the final two terms. He’s very strong at finding the footy and we got to see a bit more of his inside stuff - tackling and pressure on the opposition - and he kicked a couple of goals as well.

Jarrad Irons (for Eagles v Port Adelaide)
19 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 1 clearance, 3 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s

Playing half back as he has for the last month or so, it was one of the better games he’s played. He was accountable defensively and didn’t get exposed at all during the game. Jarrad didn’t concede any goals during the game and that’s exactly what we’ve been asking of him, but he also provided a lot of attacking run. Using his high level of skill, especially by foot, he should take a lot of confidence of the game.

Jasper Pittard (for Double Blues v Tigers)
8 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles, 2 rebound 50s

Jasper started pretty slowly with only one possession in the first quarter. In the second term he upped the ante a bit and moved more freely and did some good stuff. After half time he moved onto a wing before he hurt himself tackling an opponent. He suffered an injury to his adductors and didn’t play any further part in the game.

Mitch Curnow (for Double Blues v Tigers)
11 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 26 hit outs, 5 clearances, 1 inside 50, 1 rebound 50

Had a really good third quarter with 6 possessions and a number of hit outs - really getting involved - in what was one of his better games for the year. It was encouraging and there were ten minutes he played in the third term that were probably the best we’d seen him play. It was an encouraging performance for the young lad.
