THE Power has expanded its Girl Power program as a result of its new partnership with Renault and our commitment to AFL Women's Round.

The Girl Power program involves female role models visiting schools to discuss positive body image, self esteem, healthy lifestyles, goal setting and career pathways. The program is managed by Power Community Ltd, the community development arm of Port Adelaide FC. The program has focused on Year 10 students at Banksia Park HS, Gawler HS, Para Hills HS and Roma Mitchell Secondary College. Following the visits the students attend a Girl Power Leadership Forum, held last week at the Hilton Hotel.

The Honourable Gail Gago MLC, Minister for the Status of Women, opened the Leadership Forum with an inspiring insight into her career and the many attributes that have seen her become a leader within the South Australian Government. Students then attended sessions focused on Being Assertive, Selling Yourself and Staying Motivated. The sessions were facilitated by successful women from a range of organisations including ACH Group, Bendigo Bank and Elders, while specialist consultants in the areas of HR and Communications also contributed their time.

The students, teachers and business leaders then attended the AFL Women's Round Lunch with guest speakers Carmel Siciliano, SA Telstra Business Women of the Year, and Olympic Gold Medallist Anna Meares.

The Leadership Forum provided another layer of education and motivation for students, who were asked to document their career aspirations at the end of the day. Power Community Ltd will now facilitate work experience opportunities for the students that are consistent with their career aspirations, with many organisations already committing to the program.

The club’s partnership with Renault has included the Girl Power program and Women in Power, a social network for women who support the Power. Women in Power will host their next social event on Thursday August 22nd at the Hilton Hotel.
