Matthew Broadbent
Slow start but worked into the game well and ended up being our premier onballer throughout the game. Won a lot of key ball in the 2nd half and was the only centre square midfielder on the day to match it with the big name Richmond midfielders. Kicked a nice long goal in the final quarter to top off his day.
Paul Stewart
Did a great job defensively for most of the day playing on the taller Vickery. Kept him to just the one scoring shot whilst provided a lot of run and creativity from the defensive 50. Ran the lines and took the game on. Went up forward for some time in the second half where he also presented well. It's good to see him play two consistent good games of footy this pre-season to put his name back into Round 1 contention.
Jared Polec
A little sloppy at times but he was happy to run and create through the midfield when we were struggling to get the ball forward. Constantly took the game on and did some nice work around the stoppages as well with a bunch of clearances. Looks a bit stronger through his core than he did last year.
Jasper Pittard
Didn't really play much of a part after half time, getting subbed off in the third quarter, but his first half was excellent. He is one player that could really take huge strides forward in his game this year and become a super consistent defender. His faults are well documented but it looks like he has worked hard in the pre-season on the parts of his game he needed to improve. His foot skills are better, his composure under pressure is better and with his added strength, he is now a lot harder to tackle. In for a big season!
Nathan Krakouer
Was quiet after half time but his first half, like Jasper, was also excellent. Defended superbly out of a back pocket and was able to hit his targets going forward. Seemed to tire a bit as the game went on, but the class is there. He looks ready to slot in whenever the club needs him to which is exactly what you want from a mature rookie list player. With a spot on the senior list available, it’s possible he may get a chance earlier than expected.
