PORT ADELAIDE forward Charlie Dixon’s season is over with confirmation he suffered a leg fracture in Saturday night’s loss to West Coast.
The big man landed awkwardly on his right ankle in a marking contest during the third term of the heart-breaking four-point loss.
He was taken to hospital for scans after the match and Port Adelaide’s Head of Medical Services Tim O’Leary says they confirmed the season-ending injury.
“Charlie has suffered a fractured right fibula which will require surgery,” he said.
“We are still working out a timeline for surgery but he won’t play again this year.”
There was better news for defender Dan Houston who was injured moments later while trying to prevent a West Coast opponent from taking a mark on the wing.
He was stretchered off the ground with his neck in a brace and taken to hospital for x-rays.
“Dan has been cleared of any major neck damage and went home last night,” O’Leary said.

Ruckman Paddy Ryder sat out most of the second half after aggravating a hip flexor injury.
Both Houston and Ryder will be assessed during the week and could face Collingwood at the MCG next Saturday.
