PORT ADELAIDE senior SANFL player Jake Johansen has been named captain of the South Australian Under-18 state team in a squad consisting of six Magpies.

The state Under-18 team will play Western Australia at AAMI Stadium on May 24 at 12:00pm, with Johansen to lead his teammates out in the first of six games through May, June and July.

Johansen has developed through Port Adelaide’s junior structures after coming to the club from local club Henley and made his League football debut in Round 1 last year.

He played 15 League games in 2013 and was recognised as the club’s best first year player in the senior SANFL team.

He was one of the first players contracted to the club’s senior Magpies list in 2014 and, if not for a wrist injury sustained in the club’s final trial game against North Adelaide in March, would have been a likely starter in the senior team.

He headlines six Magpies Under-18 players in the state squad, including metro zone product Declan Hamilton and players from the club's country zone on the state's Eyre Peninsula, including Keenan Ramsey, Tom Gray (younger brother of Power rookie Sam), Brad Coulson and Luke Partington.

The state team will train at Max Basheer Reserve on Friday night before its first game against WA on Saturday.

The Port Adelaide Football Club congratulates Jake, Declan, Keenan, Tom, Brad and Luke on their selection in the state squad.
