TALENTED utility Indy Tahau has recommitted to Port Adelaide, agreeing terms on a contract extension that will see her remain at Alberton until at least the end of 2026.

Still just 21 years-old, Tahau has 33 games of AFLW experience behind her and can lay claim to being both a SANFLW and AFLW premiership player with South Adelaide and Brisbane respectively.

Strong overhead as well as at ground level, Tahau has mostly played in defence since being named as part of Port Adelaide’s inaugural AFLW list, though she has also shown an ability to go forward.

Her 2023 season was cut short by an ACL injury after three goals in four games.

Nine months post knee surgery, Tahau is deep into her rehabilitation and grateful to extend her time with the club.

“I’m always grateful for the opportunity I have here at Port Adelaide but this has given me a lot of security so I can put my contract in the back of my mind and get on with my rehab,” Tahau said.

“After a few setbacks, I’m at the point now where my rehab isn’t interrupted by any limitations so I’m well on my way to getting back out there.

“Throughout the off-season we've had girls running here pretty much every second day and everyone is just so excited to crack in, to start this new journey this year and see what we can build with our new talent and our new depth. I’m excited to be part of it.”

List Manager Naomi Maidment said the club was delighted to retain Tahau.

Indy is a talented athlete who can play a variety of roles for us,” said Maidment.

“She has been in the system long enough now that she understands what it takes to play at the level, something we don’t undervalue given our youthful list.

“While she won’t be on the park in the short-term as she works her way back from her knee injury, we are excited about what she can do for our club when she returns and over coming years.”

Tahau earned a Rising Star nomination in her first season with Port Adelaide and ended that campaign as the club’s leader for contested marks and intercept possessions.
