PORT ADELAIDE’s AFLW Week 2 game against the Western Bulldogs will now be played at the MCG, after a fixture update confirmed by the AFL.
Originally to be played at Mission Whitten Oval, the game on Friday, 6 September will be shifted to the MCG so that it can be part of a double-header with the Bulldogs’ AFL Elimination Final against Hawthorn.
The move means the game will also be played at the earlier time of 4:30pm AEST / 4:00pm ACST.
Anyone with a ticket to the sold-out AFL Elimination Final will have the ability to get to the MCG early to watch the NAB AFLW match if they choose. Gates will open at 4:00pm.
Fans who had purchased tickets to the NAB AFLW match at Whitten Oval will now receive a ticket to the MCG for both games at no additional cost, thanks to the competition’s major partner NAB.
The Friday night MCG event is sold out to the general public with a crowd of 90,000 expected on the night.
“We were presented with a unique set of circumstances, and following discussions with the Bulldogs, Port Adelaide and Hawthorn, the MCG and our broadcast partners, there was universal alignment on trying to maximise the AFLW crowd considering the Western Bulldogs involvement in both matches,” AFL EGM Football Laura Kane said.
“We encourage anyone with a ticket to the MCG on Friday next week to get to the ground early and enjoy what will be a great AFLW matchup between the Bulldogs and the Power.
“On behalf of everyone at the AFL, I want to thank everyone involved in making this happen so quickly, especially to our AFLW major partner NAB for supporting us every step of the way, as they have done so for many, many years.”
The Western Bulldogs v Port Adelaide match will be broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo.
Port Adelaide starts its 2024 campaign with a Showdown against the Crows at Alberton Oval on Saturday, 31 August from 7:15pm ACST.
Limited tickets for that game are still available.
