Port Adelaide’s development team watched three games last weekend with a number of Power listed player’s running out in the SANFL.

Matthew Nicks saw a great game between West Adelaide and North Adelaide at Richmond Oval, with Aaron Young a particular standout in a performance which helped push the Roosters over the line.

Development manager Daniel Healy was at Alberton for the Port Adelaide v Norwood clash where seven Power players took to the field.

Tyson Edwards saw Steven Salopek and Cam Hitchcock, the latter returning from a long-term shoulder injury, help Glenelg win over the line against the Eagles.

Player of the Week

Aaron Young (for Roosters v Bloods)
Youngy was given a little bit more freedom for this game - played up forward and up the ground. He had three rebound 50s, three inside 50s, ended up with over 20 possessions and was a real influence in the win for North Adelaide. This was Youngy’s best game so far.

Brett Ebert (Port Adelaide v Redlegs)
It was probably his least constructive game for the year so far. He played up forward and struggled to get into the game despite kicking 1.1, but it certainly wasn’t his best day out.

Mitch Banner (Port Adelaide v Redlegs)
Mitch had his quietest game for Port Adelaide so far this year -playing mainly up forward and a little bit on-ball. He hurt his knee late in the third quarter and tried to hobble around but came off near the end. He’ll have scans this week and may miss a week or two.

Brent Renouf (for Redlegs v Port Adelaide)
Continued his comeback recovery and it was another step in the right direction for him. He didn’t star for Norwood but rucked against (James) Meiklejohn, held his own and jumped better again this week so he showed that he’s not far away from playing in the big league.

Darren Pfeiffer (for Redlegs v Port Adelaide)
Pfeiff was the pick of our guys in this game on the day. He was very good with 23 possessions, 4 clearances and 2 goals. He was going very well until he got a knock in the third quarter and had to go off and get stitches before coming back on in the fourth. He had 16 possessions at half time and was the best player on the ground up until that point - really influential and looks as though he’s ready to go in the AFL team whenever we need him.

Tom Jonas (for Redlegs v Port Adelaide)
Played down back on Brett Ebert and (Josh) Thurgood. He continues to do the right thing week-in, week-out. We still want to see more from him offensively, but he’s very solid and a good man to have on your team.

Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Port Adelaide)
Was a lot quieter than last week - in and out of the game. He came into his own game late and kicked a goal, ended up with two for the match and finished with ten possessions, but certainly wasn’t nearly as prolific the week before.

David Rodan (for Redlegs v Port Adelaide)
Went back to Norwood with a terrific attitude and played mainly half-forward but got on ball in the second half with four or five clearances. He kicked a goal and had 18 possessions in a pretty solid hitout.

Brendon Ah Chee (Port Adelaide reserves v Redlegs)
Brendon played his best game with the majority on ball and did some brilliant competitive stuff which he loves and that’s the reason we drafted him - still has to work on his ability to run out a contest and run out a game but those things will come. It was really pleasing for him to get 18 possessions and have some really good clearances so it’s a step in the right direction for him.

Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Bloods)
Bleezey played full back, effectively the key position back for most of the night. His first half was a standout with plenty of run and creation off the backline taking North into attack. His kicking stood out and it was a positive night for him with his kicking skills and change of pace. He dropped off a bit in the second half when he started to get tired but that will come with match fitness.

Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Roosters)
Played up forward changing to the ruck for short stints. Very competitive effort from Webby throwing his body in - he gave away a few free kicks but we’d rather see that than him not going hard at the ball. A really good effort from him in a game where they were a little unlucky to lose in the end.

Danny Butcher (for Roosters reserves v Bloods)
Danny had his first game back from a bit of illness and injury - he only played about 60 percent game time but we’ll continue to ramp that up over the next few weeks.

Andrew Moore (for Roosters reserves v Bloods)
Continues to improve and it was definitely his best game for the year so far. He played up forward and also changing on-ball, he really tuend the game in the third quarter. He took a number of contested marks as well as some other contested ball and setting up a few goals - kicking two himself - and turning the game in North’s favour so well done Moorey!

Ben Newton (for Bloods reserves v Roosters)
Improving every week, playing on-ball getting to plenty of stoppages getting some really good inside strong bodywork. What we’re now trying to work with Benny on is his outside stuff, but we’re seeing a real competitive beast and a super smart footballer in him.

Steven Salopek (for Tigers v Eagles)
Had a bit of a quiet first half but a very good second. Got plenty of the ball, used it really well and his spread-and-run was a feature of his game.

Cameron Hitchcock (for Tigers v Eagles)
It was his first game this year and he slotted straight into the League side, which was great. He ended up with 3.1 which is a great effort first-up and he got through the game really well. It was great to see him get back into action again and pull up well and actually perform really well in the League so a great start for Hitchy.
