PORT ADELAIDE has a third Telstra AFLW Rising Star nominee for the season with ruck Matilda Scholz the latest player to be recognised.

It’s the second time Scholz has received a nomination after getting the nod in Round 2 last season.

In just her second season in the AFLW, the 19-year-old is among the competition’s leading rucks averaging 22.3 hit-outs and 12.3 disposals as well as 4.3 clearances per game.

Her nine clearances in Thursday night’s win over Collingwood was a career high, while she also had 15 disposals, six tackles and a goal in the eight-point victory.

The 189cm ruck’s stand-out performance was capped when she flew high to take a Virgin AFLW Mark of the Year contender in the third quarter.

Scholz made her debut in Round One last season after being drafted from Glenelg in the SANFLW during the 2023 AFLW Priority Signing Period and has now played 18 AFLW games.

In her debut season, she was named the Port Adelaide’s Best First Year Player and came third in the club's Best and Fairest.

Scholz joins teammates Shineah Goody (Week One) and Molly Brooksby (Week Five) as nominees for the 2024 Telstra AFLW Rising Star.
