Port Adelaide has selected tall Jack Whitlock with pick 33 on night two of the 2024 Telstra AFL National Draft.
The Victorian big man is an athletic key forward, with the ability to perform well in the air and hit the scoreboard.
Identified as a player with huge potential to develop at the next level, Whitlock kicked 25 goals from 12 games in the Coates Talent League in 2024.
He tested well in the Draft Combine, particularly in the vertical running jump and two-kilometre time trial.
Whitlock is a competitive endurance athlete, who nominated for the Draft alongside twin brother Matt, who was taken by North Melbourne on Wednesday night.
Port Adelaide National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker says:
Jack competes aerially and is hard to defend when he jumps at the ball with his arms fully outstretched. He is a strong character with great work ethic.
AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan says:
A wiry tall forward who is super athletic, has good hands out in front and overhead, an excellent ability to read the game and consistently performs at a high level. Had an extremely promising year at both Coates Talent League and representative level. He averaged 16.4 disposals and five marks per game, as well as kicking 25 goals, for the Murray Bushrangers, as well as averaging 14.8 disposals and five marks for Victoria Country. He was added to the Australia U18 team as an injury replacement in the match against Coburg and showed slices of his enormous potential. He is the twin of a fellow Draft hopeful Matt. His running vertical jump of 91cm ranked fourth at the national Draft Combine and his time of 6:39 in the 2km time trial in windy conditions showcased his competitive edge and endurance.
