Former AFL-listed player Kyle Marshall will return to Port Adelaide in 2025, to play for the SANFL side.
Under the SANFL’s new rules for AFL clubs, Port Adelaide can sign up to six local players from other clubs aged 21 or under, as part of a talent development list.
Marshall was taken by the Power in the 2022 National Draft, with the 20-year-old selected at pick 59.
Playing 14 SANFL games in 2024, the 201-centimetre defender averaged 7.1 disposals and 3.6 marks.
At the end of the 2024 season, Marshall wasn’t offered another AFL contract, however the key defender has been given a fresh opportunity at Alberton.
“Knowing the Port Adelaide environment after spending two years here makes it a comfortable transition for me to go into the SANFL program,” Marshall said.
“I’m pleased to be getting another chance at Port Adelaide, to play alongside mates I’ve made since I began here.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do in 2025.”
Head of SANFL Paul Stewart was pleased to welcome Marshall back to the club.
“This opportunity will give Kyle the best chance to continue developing as a player by remaining in an AFL environment.,” Stewart said.
“Kyle’s agility, vertical leap and running capacity are key traits of his game. He also possesses good reach, allowing him to get from contest to contest.
“It's a testament to his good character that he's able to move on from the disappointment of being delisted and back himself in to have another crack at it.
“South Adelaide have been fantastic in supporting Kyle to stay at Alberton, and we are grateful for their willingness to work with us.”
Marshall joins former Gold Coast and Central District player Jez McLennan and father-sons Rome Burgoyne and Oli Francou in being signed to Port Adelaide since the SANFL introduced its new list guidelines.
