OLIVIA LEVICKI has announced she is retiring from the AFLW.
A member of Port Adelaide’s inaugural AFLW squad in 2022, Levicki played every game in her debut season and missed just one in 2024 to take her tally to 25 for her career.
A decorated former WNBL basketballer with 188 games to her name, Levicki also represented Australia and only took up football after being convinced to switch codes by former Power captain Erin Phillips.
Yet, the 31-year-old’s competitiveness and drive was evident from the moment she picked up a Sherrin and incredibly her first official game of football only came in the club’s first AFLW match against West Coast in 2022.
During her time in Port Adelaide colours, she twice had 39 hit-outs, including in the week 10 win over Greater Western Sydney this season, but with the emergence of Matilda Scholz in the ruck, she spent more time forward, booting six career goals and averaging 15 hit-outs.
While she loved her time in the AFLW, Levicki said the time was right for her to step away, having played elite sport for half her life.
“I have been playing sport professionally for 16 years and for the most part it has been as a basketballer,” she said.
“But to have played three seasons as an AFLW player for this incredible club, I could not be prouder.
“Crossing codes comes with challenges but I hope my contribution as an inaugural player has helped the club on its path towards the ultimate success.”
Head of AFLW Shane Grimm thanked Levicki for her contribution to the club and wished her and husband Patrick well.
“Olivia is a real success story for our program as someone who came from a different sporting background and made a real impact,” said Grimm.
“She has worked hard to hone her ruck craft, always looking for advice and trying to find ways to get better.
“While we are sad to see her go, we congratulate on all she has achieved throughout her career and wish her and her family well for the next stage of her life.”
Levicki is the third Port Adelaide player to hang up the boots since the end of the season following the retirements of defenders Ange Foley and Maddy Keryk.
