ABBEY DOWRICK will remain a Port Adelaide player until at least the end of 2027 after penning a contract extension with the club.
While she was already signed until the end of 2026, the 22-year-old – fresh off a second-placed finish in the club’s Best and Fairest - elected to add another year to her contract to remain at Alberton long-term.
Part of the club’s inaugural AFLW list, Dowrick is one of the more damaging players in the side’s engine room.
She averages 17.3 disposals and ranks elite for both tackles and clearances, averaging 6.8 and 5.6 respectively.
She also booted six goals in 13 games, having gone without a major last year.
After a break-out 2023 season in which she was selected in the All-Australian and 22Under22 squads and was named the club Best and Fairest, Dowrick enhanced her reputation across the competition this year, stepping up in big moments including with two last quarter goals in the remarkable come-from-behind Semi-Final win over Hawthorn.
The Subiaco product’s season was recognised with selection in the final 22Under22 side and with her eighth placed overall finish in the voting for the AFLW’s Best and Fairest award.
“Port Adelaide has been nothing but supportive of me since I came to the club and it feels like home for me now,” Dowrick said.
“When the club offered me the chance to extend my contract, I jumped at it. I don't want to be anywhere else.
“I love it here at Port Adelaide with the girls and the staff and volunteers – it’s just amazing.
“The group has come so far in a couple of seasons and this year showed we absolutely have what it takes to taste some success in the next few years. I really want to be a part of that.”
List manager Naomi Maidment praised Dowrick’s commitment to the club and to her own development.
“Abbey has always been supremely talented, but we have been so impressed with how far she has come around preparing and recovering before and after games,” said Maidment.
“We think she is among the top midfielders in the competition, though we know she is still young and has a lot of development to come.
“We’re pleased to have Abbey at the club for another three seasons and looking forward to seeing her continued growth.”
