Port Adelaide tall Georgie Jaques has opted to step away from AFLW football.
The 21-year-old has chosen to delist herself with a year remaining on her contract on the eve of the list lodgement deadline, prior to Monday’s Telstra AFLW Draft.
Jaques arrived at the Power in 2023 through the AFLW Supplementary Draft, but was unable to break into the side in her first year, before rupturing her ACL at the back end of the season.
Now having successfully completed her knee rehab, the Norwood product will take some time to weigh up her football future.
“I’ve enjoyed my time at Port Adelaide Football Club and I’m grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to be on an AFLW list,” Jaques said.
“I feel like I need to be outside of the elite environment for a little while to decide what comes next, and to gain some confidence back following my injury.
“I have met some great people at Port Adelaide, and I wish the girls all the best for 2025.”
Jaques has secured a new role with the club’s charity arm, Power Community Ltd., working within the Respectful Relationships and First Nations programs.
Head of AFLW Shane Grimm thanked Jaques for her time at Port Adelaide.
“We are supportive of Georgie’s decision to depart the AFLW program and we are pleased to have worked with Georgie and her manager to find her a new opportunity,” Grimm said.
“We thank Georgie for her contribution to the club, and we wish her all the very best for the future.”
Port Adelaide will finalise its 2025 list at the Telstra AFLW Draft on Monday night, with the event broadcast on AFL.com.au, the AFLW App and the AFL Live App from 7:00pm AEDT.
