Port Adelaide has claimed South Australian midfielder/forward Jemma Whitington-Charity with its third pick (pick 40 overall) at Monday night’s Telstra AFLW Draft.

While she is currently working her way back from an ACL injury suffered playing for North Adelaide in the SANFLW, Whitington-Charity is well known to Port Adelaide’s recruiting team, having been part of the club’s Next Generation Academy where she was coached by current List Manager Naomi Maidment.

Still just 18, Whitington-Charity played two seasons of league football for Woodville-West Torrens alongside the likes of current Power midfielder Shineah Goody before switching to North Adelaide along with her sister Chloe ahead of the 2024 season.

Renowned for her football IQ and class with the ball, Whitington-Charity played mostly as a forward who spent time in the midfield before being used as a rebounding defender where her strong marking ability and distribution out of the backline caught the eye.

She was named an Under 18 All-Australian in her bottom age year in 2023 and though unable to showcase her talents much this year in the SANFLW, at the National Championships or at the National Combine, the Henley Sharks product’s potential and versatility will make her an exciting prospect for Port Adelaide supporters for a long time to come.

List Manager Naomi Maidment said:

“Jemma is a contested player who can win her own ball and then uses it really well by foot."
