Port Adelaide has claimed small forward Jasmine Sowden with its fifth pick (pick 52 overall) at Monday night’s Telstra AFLW Draft.

It was an ideal birthday present for the Gippsland Power product, who a day before her 18th birthday landed at the club she grew up supporting.

A talented forward who can also play in the midfield, Sowden averaged 20.7 disposals, 3.8 marks and six tackles as well as a goal per game in the Coates Talent League in 2024.

Perhaps her best game came against the Murray Bushrangers in Round 17 when she booted four goals from 31 disposals.

Renowned for her skills on both sides of her body and her evasiveness, the 17-year-old reads the ball well around the stoppage to win the clearance but is also not afraid to apply defensive pressure.

She joins West Australian Lily Paterson (pick 19), South Australian duo Jasmine Evans (pick 33) and Jemma Whitington-Charity (pick 40) and Queenslander Chloe Gaunt (pick 48) as Port Adelaide’s newest recruits.

List Manager Naomi Maidment said:

“Jasmine is a crafty forward who applies great defensive pressure and has some great Port Adelaide traits in the way she tackles.”
