Around 600 secondary students flooded onto Alberton Oval on Thursday to participate in a range of physical activities including football coaching clinics, mini golf, rock climbing, bungee run and sumo suit wrestling.
Shine SA, Second Story, YMCA, Surf Life Saving SA and Port Adelaide Police ran interactive displays to educate students about a healthy lifestyle.
Students enjoyed a healthy barbecue – provided by the scouts – while local bands blasted out some rocking tunes.
Power players Toby Thurstans, Travis Boak, Robbie Gray, Ryan Williams and Mitch Farmer signed autographs and posed for photos with students.
Travis Boak and Ryan Williams even tried their hand at mini-golf. It’s safe to say as golfers, they make good footballers.
EMPOWER was organised by three councils – Port Adelaide Enfield, Charles Sturt and West Torrens – in conjunction with the Power and each student in attendance received information from health agencies along with two tickets to the Power v Brisbane game this Saturday night.
Power chief executive John James said the club was pleased to be involved with such a great community program.
”Empower was a great initiative to work with three local councils to engage and educate youth,” James said.
“The Power is keen to work in partnership with local agencies and highlighted Alberton Oval as a great facility to host community programs.”
