TWO key defenders have been placed on the injury list after the weekend.

Jackson Trengove is set to miss an extended period of time as a result of foot surgery undergone on Monday.

He was substituted from Saturday’s 5-point win over West Coast at AAMI Stadium and further investigation identified a fractured metatarsal in his right foot.

“It’s disappointing for him, disappointing for us as a club, but we’re not about one player and certainly from a team point of view we’re all about team defence," director of coaching and strategy Alan Richardson told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“Someone will fill his position and we’re really confident that whoever it will be can do the role we give him.

“We’ve got some guys playing some pretty good footy in the SANFL, but it may also be that we can cover him using players from the team we had last week.”

portadelaidefc.com.au can also reveal Jasper Pittard will be assessed at training prior to selection on Thursday for a strained hip flexor.

Pittard was a late withdrawal from last Saturday’s match against the Eagles with general soreness, however further investigation following the match revealed a more significant injury.

“We expected him to get up to play on Saturday and with a bit more research we’ve found that he’s got a really minor strain,” said Richardson.

“He’s still a chance to play this week though and we’ll be assessing him as part of our normal processes.”

In other injury news, rookie Danny Butcher suffered a minor AC joint (shoulder) injury while playing for Port Adelaide’s SANFL side on Saturday afternoon and will be assessed at training this week.

Brett Ebert also continues his progress towards a full playing return, downgraded to a 3-5 week prospect as he recovers from adductor surgery.

portadelaidefc.com.au will continue to have the inside word on the club’s injury situation this week with an update on Jackson Trengove’s foot surgery.
