PORT ADELAIDE forward Charlie Dixon has labelled teammate Sam Powell-Pepper a competitive “monster” while praising his contribution to the Power’s winning streak.

Since Powell-Pepper returned from a four-game suspension, the Power has lost just one of its six matches (to Hawthorn by three points in Round 11).

The 20-year-old has averaged 22.5 disposals in that time along with 7.8 tackles, culminating in a club record 17 tackles in the win over Melbourne on Friday night.

“He gets a role every week, just pestering the opposition and he was a monster all night for us,” Dixon said during an interview with Adelaide radio station Triple M.

“He loves the competitive side to it, and loves getting into the niggle and all that sort of stuff.

“But he’s been amazing for us the last few weeks.”

Dixon also sung the praises of backman Tom Jonas who, along with his defensive line, continually repelled the Demons, restricting them to their lowest score of the season despite conceding 69 forward entries.

“You know what you’re gonna get from TJ,” Dixon said.

“He’s unconditional, he just goes out there and puts his body on the line.

“He’s the ultimate pro and he just does anything he can for the team.”

Dixon said the win, despite trailing in many of the key statistical areas, had boosted morale at Alberton.

He said it showed significant improvement from how the side played last season.

“It was a massive win for the boys,” Dixon said.

“In previous years we tend to lose those ones and it has sort of been the other way around where we’ve had all the entries, all the stats are going our way and we end up losing.

“So it was good to come away with one of those ones and keep moving forward.”

Next for Port Adelaide is a trip to Melbourne to face Carlton.

It will be the first time the Power plays on the MCG this season, and it will go in as favourite against the bottom of the ladder Blues.

A win could propel Port into the top eight, but Dixon said it would not be an easy game.

“The league is that now anyone on any day can win, that’s the way the comp is now,” he said.

“We’ve got to go in with the same mindset we’ve had for the last three or four weeks and go in there and get the win and then come home.”
