ALIPATE Carlile says the Power can’t expect to win against West Coast this week if they continue to play like they have.
Port held the lead for most of the game despite the Crows gaining 29 more inside-50s in Round 5.
Carlile says that they’ll need to close that gap if they want to win on the weekend.
“We’re still getting the job done, we’re finding a way but it’s not how we want to play,” he said.
“We won’t be able to keep this up much longer.”
After having his work cut out for him last weekend against Adelaide captain Taylor Walker, he’ll have another hard fought battle on his hands if West Coast star forward Josh Kennedy proves his fitness for the Eagles.
“[Kennedy] is a brilliant leader and really masters the troops,” Carlile said.
“He’s always looking to stay involved in the game which makes him pretty dangerous.”
However, Kennedy has a cloud of doubt hovering over him after hyper extending his right arm during the second term of the Eagles’ massive win over the Giants.
The last time these two teams met, Carlile kept him to one goal five but Kennedy got the best of Carlile the game before, kicking four straight.
If Kennedy does play, Carlile says it’ll be his versatility that’ll be the focus for the defence this week.
“He’s as good at ground level as he is in the air.”
It’s his skill in this area that makes him so potent so it won’t be the responsibility of one man to take him out of the game.
“It doesn’t really matter who gets him, whether it’s me or Hombschy or Jacko, we want to get it done as a back 6.”
Carlile says Port’s back six have really come together this season with the inclusion of elevated rookie, Nathan Krakouer and this will be key to winning this Sunday.
“Jasper is going brilliantly and having Nathan Krakouer down there is giving us another option,” he said.
“Broady’s been unreal and Jack Hombsch is really doing his job.
“We know we can rely on him week in, week out.”
With the ledger now reading a much healthier three wins to two losses, Carlile says the team is ready for this week.
“Considering the start we had, it’s pretty good and gives us a good measure of where we’re at.
“We go into this week full of confidence and will hopefully get the job done over West Coast.”
Bobby: We need to lift for Eagles
Alipate Carlile says the Power will need to improve its performance if it is to defeat the fifth placed Eagles on Sunday.
