IF last year’s two Showdowns are anything to go by then Port Adelaide and Adelaide fans are in for a heart-stopping finish in Round 8.

It was Port - thanks to a Steven Motlop goal with 20 seconds remaining - who had bragging rights at the beginning of 2018, before a Josh Jenkins snap late in the Round 20 encounter handed the ascendancy back to the Crows.

In Round 8 last season, Adelaide started the better of the two teams, but a seven-goal to two third term handed the Power the lead heading into the final change.

Stretching the lead to 17 points mid-way through the last quarter, Port fans would be forgiven for thinking the game was in the bag.

But three late Adelaide goals completely turned the game on its head. Enter Steven Motlop.

With less than a minute on the clock and a one-point deficit, Motlop stormed through the 50, sold some candy and sealed a famous victory for Ken Hinkley’s men with a last-gasp goal.

Robbie Gray was at his masterful best, with his six majors earning him the Showdown medal.

Tom Rockliff (31 disposals), Ollie Wines (26), Justin Westhoff (26) found plenty of the football for Port, while Rory Atkins (29), Rory Laird (27) and Matt Crouch (27) were the best possession-winners for the Crows.

However, the roles were reversed in Round 20 last year, with the Power giving up the lead late in the game to hand Adelaide a one-game advantage in the overall standing between the clubs.

Scores were level after a very entertaining first term, with speedster Kane Farrell kicking three goals in just his fifth quarter of AFL footy.

The Power had the ascendancy on the scoreboard for the majority of the game from that point, thanks to four goals each to Chad Wingard and Robbie Gray.

Adelaide were dominating possession but weren’t converting, until some magic from Eddie Betts put the Crows within a kick late in the contest.

Jenkins’ third major with two minutes left on the clock was enough to give the Crows victory in front of their home crowd.

Matt Crouch (35 touches), Bryce Gibbs (29) and Rory Atkins (29) were the major ball-winners for Don Pyke’s men, while Jenkins’ three goals proved the difference late.

Fast-forward to Round 8, 2019 and there are some major differences to both sides.

Port’s leadership group, and a number of key personnel, are all missing through injury, while the Crows will be without Sam Jacobs, Bryce Gibbs, Wayne Milera and Tom Doedee.

Both sides have a 4-3 win-loss record heading into the Showdown, with the Crows sitting sixth and the Power seventh on the AFL ladder.

The Power has made four changes to the side that lost to Collingwood at Marvel Stadium last week, while the Crows have one confirmed change.

Ollie Wines (leg) and Brad Ebert (concussion) will miss through injury, while Zak Butters and Riley Bonner have been omitted.

Gibbs will miss due to back spasms, paving way for Luke Brown to return from injury.

The cross-town rivals shared the points last season, but it is the Crows who have won four of the previous five encounters between the two sides.

Adelaide hold a 23-22 head-to-head record.

If this contest mirrors either of the two games from last year, then the sell-out Adelaide Oval crowd will be in for a treat.
