MELBOURNE could feature at least one AFL debutant against Port Adelaide on Saturday, making it five in the game after the Power announced it would have four players playing their first senior game.
With Connor Rozee, Willem Drew, Zak Butters and Xavier Duursma confirmed to debut in Power colours, mature aged Demons recruit Marty Hore looks set to join them.
Hore, taken at pick no. 56 in last year’s AFL Draft, has impressed in the JLT Community Series and is likely to line up in the Melbourne defence in the absence of Gold Coast recruit Steven May.
The former Suns’ skipper will have to wait a week to play his first game for the Demons after being suspended for a week in the pre-season competition.
Another former Sun Kade Kolodjashnij will need to find form in the VFL after an injury interrupted pre-season and won’t feature against the Power, while North Melbourne recruit Braydon Preuss has a groin injury that has him in doubt to feature at any level this week.
In his absence 2018 All-Australian Max Gawn will carry ruck duties in his 100th AFL game.
Pre-season losses to Richmond and Brisbane don’t seem to have Melbourne concerned with coach Simon Goodwin penning a new three-year contract extension on Tuesday, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2022 season.
