AHEAD of Port Adelaide’s Best & Fairest on Friday night, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look back at the best marks from season 2019.
NUMBER 1 - Willem Drew vs Richmond
Port Adelaide’s best mark of the season goes to inside midfield Willem Drew, who showed extreme courage running back with the flight against Richmond in round four at Adelaide Oval.
Drew received widespread praise from commentators around the league, as well as senior coach Ken Hinkley, for his courageous act.
NUMBER 2 - Dan Houston vs North Melbourne
Dan Houston brought down the biggest grab of season 2019, when he rose above North Melbourne’s Kayne Turner.
Houston leapt high over Turner in the Power defensive 50 to get the big Adelaide Oval crown on their feet during ANZAC Round.
NUMBER 3 - Connor Rozee vs North Melbourne
Port’s first pick in last year’s draft Connor Rozee was on the end of an impressive chain of football from a young Power trio.
Willem Drew shovelled a hanball out to Zak Butters, who spun out of a tackle and sent the ball inside forward 50 where Rozee was one-on-one with Kangaroos defender Sam Wright.
The 19-year-old leapt over the top of Wright to come in at number three for the year.
NUMBER 4 - Xavier Duursma vs Richmond
Late in the last term of the round four clash against Richmond, young gun Xavier Duursma rose high above the pack to take a hanger.
Duursma jumped on top of co-captain Ollie Wines and held on to the footy as he theatrically fell to the ground.
NUMBER 5 - Dougal Howard vs St Kilda
Dougal Howard did it again against St Kilda in Shaghai, pulling in a huge grab opposed to two Saints defenders.
Howard was positioned in between Callum Wilkie and Nathan Brown, but his athleticism and desire for the footy saw him take one of the year’s best marks.
NUMBER 6 - Justin Westhoff vs Essendon
Power veteran Justin Westhoff comes in at number six of the best marks of the season, after raking in a very clever falling one-handed mark.
Westhoff runs back with the flight, pushes off Bombers forward Mitch Brown, and grasps on to the one-hander as he’s tumbling to the ground.
NUMBER 7 - Xavier Duursma vs Richmond
Xavier Duursma climbed over the top of Richmond’s Liam Baker to come in at number seven in Port’s best marks of the season.
Duursma but his body on the line, landing awkwardly, but was able to hold on to the grab inside the Power’s 50.
NUMBER 8 - Dougal Howard vs St Kilda
Dougal Howard’s second mention in Port’s top 10 best marks of the season is his strong contested grab against St Kilda in Shanghai.
Howard was rewarded with a nomination for mark of the week, as he jumped all over the top of Saints defender Nick Coffield to pull down a great mark.
NUMBER 9 - Paddy Ryder vs Fremantle
Paddy Ryder comes in at number nine of the best marks of the season, after raking in a clever one-hander against Fremantle.
Ryder held off Dockers defender Joel Hamling with his left hand, and palmed the ball to himself with the right.
NUMBER 10 - Dougal Howard vs Collingwood
Dougal Howard launched over Collingwood’s Will Hoskin-Elliot in Port’s round seven loss to the Magpies at Marvel Stadium.
After a slow start the game for the Power, Howard tried to lift the visitors in the second term with a strong contested grab.
