THE PORT ADELAIDE Football Club and White Ribbon are banding together to try build a future free from violence and abuse against women – and want people to spread the message with a visible show of support in the form of a new co-produced hat.
The limited-edition New Era PA White Ribbon hat features the White Ribbon logo and PA (Port Adelaide) symbol.
Proceeds from the sale of the hats will be split between the club, for its Power To End Violence Against Women program, and White Ribbon, to continue its good work in the space.
So far this year there have been 25 women murdered, with at least one per week at the hands of a current or former partner.
Every two minutes, police deal with an incident of domestic violence somewhere in Australia.
The Power to End Violence Against Women program is already doing brilliant work in the domestic violence space, with research by Flinders University finding the school-based program for year 10 boys is achieving real change, with young men and boys who take part becoming strong advocates for the cause.
The initiative of a jointly produced hat, supported by New Era, will help showcase the collaborative work between White Ribbon and the Football Club to promote respectful relationships where every woman lives in safety, free from all forms of abuse by men.
The hat has been sponsored by the Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast Committee.
Port Adelaide, through the Port Club, will also support the #WhiteRibbonNight where White Ribbon asks everyone to take a stand and help #GetTheWordOut by hosting an evening event.
The Port Club will host an event on Wednesday July 24 with cocktail food and entertainment on offer for $45 per person, and all proceeds going to White Ribbon.
The limited edition co-produced hats will be on offer at the event and are also available in the lead-up at the Port Store for $39.99.
