THIS WEEK, Port Adelaide will be riding for a reason in support of South Australian football great, Mark Mickan and Parkinson’s SA.
A group of current Power coaches and past greats will be participating in a 24-hour bike ride on stationary exercise bikes in Telstra Plaza at Adelaide Oval from 4pm Thursday 18 July to 4pm Friday 19 July.
Teams of riders from the club’s Mickan touched during his playing and coaching career will be pushing the pedals in an effort to raise awareness and funds to support Parkinson’s SA, the Mickan family and others in SA suffering from the debilitating disease.
In 2016, Mickan, a former Power assistant coach who also enjoyed a SA Football Hall of Fame playing and coaching career in the SANFL, VFL and AFL, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
He immediately sought the support of Parkinson’s SA who have helped him come to terms with this disease, of which there is no known cure, and provided outstanding support for him and his family.
Parkinson’s SA is a not-for-profit organisation that has provided support and information to people living with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders, their carers, family, community and health professionals for over 30 years.
The organisation represents and supports the 8,000 people with Parkinson’s in SA and their family members.
If you are in a position to donate and help support the cause, tax deductible donations can be made by clicking here.
The Port Adelaide Football Club has committed to matching dollar for dollar all donations made to the club’s team of riders up for $5,000.
