NEWLY re-signed forward Todd Marshall has echoed comments by his coach Ken Hinkley about the need for a big crowd at Adelaide Oval on Saturday as the Power looks to push for a finals berth.
Poor weather and some inconsistent form has seen Port’s home crowds slightly down in 2019, but Marshall explained how important the crowd support will be as the ninth-placed Power chased a spot in the top eight.
The 20-year-old - who signed a two-year contract extension this week to remain at Alberton until the end of 2022 - said a big, vocal Adelaide Oval crowd has provided some of his most memorable experiences.
“Hopefully we can keep winning these last couple of games and get a few bigger crowds back to Adelaide Oval,” Marshall said.
“The games that I’ve played here - especially the elimination final in my first year. It was crazy loud and hopefully we can get back to that pretty soon.”
Speaking after his side’s 59-point victory over Essendon last weekend, Hinkley passionately urged Port’s faithful to flock to Adelaide Oval to help provide his side with an extra spark against Sydney on Saturday afternoon.
“Hopefully we will bring the same type of energy, the same type of environment,” Hinkley said.
“I want all the Port people to get there, that’s what I really want. I would really love to see them get to Adelaide Oval and help us.
“We want to make it a fortress. It was known as the Portress, and I reckon it will be nice to make it feel like it again this weekend.
“I know there’s been a reason not to turn up sometimes, but I’m asking you to turn up.”
Port Adelaide hosts Sydney at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon, with the first bounce at 1.40pm ACST.
